Can Wispbyte’s Free Plan Support a Personal VPN Project?

Posted by user_ny2m14 in general.

Hi everyone! 👋 I’m exploring Wispbyte’s free hosting plan for a small personal project called EriCore VPN , and I’d appreciate advice from anyone with experience using Wispbyte or running network related applications on its free plan. Before I get started, I’d like to clarify a few things: 1. Is running a private VPN for personal use allowed under Wispbyte’s free plan and Terms of Service? This would not be a public or commercial VPN service. 2. Does the free plan support WireGuard or similar VPN software? 3. Does the hosting environment provide the necessary Linux capabilities to create TUN/TAP interfaces and configure network routing? Is root access available? 4. Are inbound and outbound UDP connections supported? Can users use custom UDP ports for VPN connections? 5. Are there any restrictions on custom ports, encrypted tunnels, bandwidth, or long running network connections? 6. Can applications remain online 24/7 on the free plan, or might they be suspended or archived because of inactivity or resource limitations? 7. If WireGuard isn’t supported, are there any alternative VPN or tunneling solutions that are both permitted and technically feasible on the free plan? I understand that the free plan has limited resources, and I’m happy to work within those limits. I mainly want to confirm whether this type of project is permitted and technically possible before investing time in setting it up. If anyone from the Wispbyte team is here, I’d especially appreciate clarification on the official policy and networking limitations. Thanks in advance for any help! 🙏

A VPN or tunneling service isn’t permitted on Wispbyte, even for personal use. The Fair Use Policy specifically prohibits VPN/proxy tunnels, including tools such as Xray and VLESS: https://wispbyte.com/fair use It also isn’t a good fit technically: Wispbyte runs apps in Docker containers, not VPS instances with root access, and WireGuard typically needs networking capabilities such as TUN access that a container may not provide. Use a VPS or provider that explicitly allows VPN hosting and supports those capabilities. Free servers can run 24/7, but require a client panel login at least once a month and remain subject to resource limits.
