Discord Bot Unable to Connect — HTTP 429 with 13-Hour Retry Time

Posted by un1ddtpd11 in general.

My Discord bot cannot finish connecting. A single request to https://discord.com/api/v10/gateway/bot returned HTTP 429 with retry after: 47179. I've stopped the bot. Can you investigate whether the server's outbound IP is shared and affected by a Discord API restriction? Please check for other traffic contributing to the rate limit.

That with (about 13 hours) strongly points to Discord rate limiting the outbound IP, rather than a problem with your bot code. On shared free nodes, bots share an outbound IPv4, so traffic from another bot can trigger the limit. The response alone can’t identify which traffic caused it. 1. Keep the bot stopped until the retry period expires; repeated login attempts can prolong the block. 2. Check that your token is valid before starting again, and avoid automatic retries. 3. If this is a premium server, open a ticket with the node name. Free servers can’t be moved or assigned a different IP. More details: https://wispbyte.com/kb/discord rate limits
